Building homes, schools, office buildings and communities can’t happen without professionals in the construction trades and lumber and building materials industry.

Demand for new homes remains strong and so is the demand for construction workers and those working in the lumber and material building (LBM) industry. October is Careers in Construction Month. It highlights the rewarding and well-compensated career paths available in the home building industry.

The Building Materials Industry Needs You!

Building homes, schools, office buildings and communities can’t happen without professionals in the construction trades and lumber and building materials (LBM) industry.

Today there is a shortage of skilled workers in these industries. These jobs pay well, are fun to work in, and have abundant opportunities for career growth.

Lumber and Building Materials

There are various roles in the building materials industry for anyone willing to work hard and be responsible. These include Sales Specialist, Kitchen and Bath Designer, Building Component Designer, Material Estimator, Carpenter, and Truck Driver.

Training for these positions is often acquired on the job from attending seminars, workshops, and working alongside more experienced co-workers. The Midwest Building Suppliers Association has a very good video at LBM Careers that provides great insight into your future in this industry.

Construction Trades

In the construction trades there are opportunities as electricians, plumbers and carpenters that do require additional education and apprenticeships, but not a four year college degree. These jobs pay very well and offer long term job security.
